1.The most important for choosing motherboard is compaiblity of your Processor.

Many new processors have lga 1150 type socket which represent the number of pins on processor.

If you have a processor with socket lga 1150 then you can get your motherboard for cheap price.But if you have lga 2011 socket then it would be too costly.But will come with descent amount of good specifications. 

 2.The second point to remember is if your processor is overclocking capable or not.

For intel processors the k series i3 i5 and i7 are overclocking series processors and for these processors your best choice would be Z97 chipset motherboard.These chipsets are highly capable of overclocking and gaming also. The X99 are too expensive but the best motherboards if you can buy them but also the most are lga 2011 type boards so be sure.

IF you have a non oc/over clocking processor than you can get H97 is best for gaming and B85 or H81 or Z87(somewhat ocable) will done the job.

 3.The third main thing to remember is maximum supported RAM and maximum supported RAM frequency.

The most  Z97 motherboards have maximum supported ram upto 32gb and frequency about 2933mhz.

 So,these were the most important points for choosing motherboard.You should also consider onboard graphics,audio,slots,sli,crossfire supported etc. for your motherboard.

5.Storage

A hdd or ssd or new sshd is very essential.The sshd or solid state hybrid drive have both features of a hard disk and solid state drive.sshd are useful but not fast as ssd but faster than hdd.

6.Motherboard

All parts of a pc are assembled on motherboard cpu,gpu,ram,sound card etc.

So, a motherboard is very much essential.
